Dog Pet Beds: Many to Choose From
There are many varieties and styles of dog pet beds to choose from, both in stores and on the internet. From the simplicity of the pillow type, to elaborate, hand-crafted frames and mattresses, canine beds come in all shapes and sizes. The one that is right for you depends on your dog, your budget, and your personal taste in dog pet beds.
Why Use a Dog Pet Bed?
When you bring a new puppy or dog into your home, one of the best ways to provide familiarity and stability is with a canine bed. This is an exciting and chaotic time for your puppy. It helps if he has a place of his own to rest. Much like babies, puppies sleep quite a bit. The routine and habits you establish now will be lasting. In other words, if you let your puppy sleep in your bed and on the sofa now, your puppy will expect to sleep in your bed and on the sofa in the future.
It is very tempting to put a cute little puppy in bed with you, but in the long run it does you and him no favors. This is particularly true concerning larger breeds of dogs. Still, there are plenty of reasons not to have your Small Dog in bed with you and on your furniture. Instead, let your puppy have his own dog pet bed.
Get Down Sparky!
Most dogs shed; some more than others, but almost all of them do to some degree. Dogs do not take a bath or shower everyday like most people. If you allow your dog to sleep with you, rather than in a canine bed, be prepared to change your sheets more often due to the fur and doggy smell.
Do you like to lie on the cold, hard floor? Neither does your dog. For this reason, a dog pet bed can be of great assistance in keeping your dog off of your furniture. It is hard to look nice when your clothes are covered with dog fur. Keeping Muffin or Sparky off the couch will help you avoid this. Not only will your family benefit, but your guests will greatly appreciate it.
Keeping your dog or puppy off of your furniture and in a canine bed will help prolong the life of your furniture. Dog nails can be sharp, and accidental rips and tears occur. Dogs transfer dirt onto your bed and furniture causing stains and odor.
Training
One of the most effective ways to train your puppy not to urinate or defecate in the house is crate training. If you put your puppy in a crate at night or when you are away, why not provide a crate large enough to contain a dog pet bed? Your dog will feel more comfortable and secure if his familiar and cozy bed is right there to snuggle up in.
Dogs are territorial creatures, particularly when it comes to where they sleep. This can be a huge problem with male dogs who instinctively seek to “mark” their territory. If you allow your male dog to sleep in your bed or on your furniture, there is a very good chance he will mark it. Most dog pet beds are easily washable, which is not the case with your mattress or sofa.
The bottom line is that providing a canine bed and keeping your puppy off of your bed and the furniture will save you a lot of time and trouble in the long run.
